In the past, Orange had the Samsung Tocco Lite Quick Tap, which allowed its customers to enjoy more from contactless payments. Now, they plan on adding another NFC-enabled smartphone to its roster. This is the Samsung Wave 578.
The bad news is, you can only make use of this handset if you have an Orange credit card, Barclays debit, or Barclaycard. If you do, load as much as £100 on the phone. This will allow you to wave around the phone to pay for goods in shops. You can pay as much as £15 per purchase.
There are a number of shops that have signed up for the service. These shops include Little Chef, Subway, McDonalds, Eat, and Pret a Manager.
When it comes to the phone itself, the Wave 578 is powered by Samsung’s very own mobile OS, the Bada OS. It comes with a 3.2 inch touchscreen, can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi, and sports a 3.2 megapixel rear-facing camera.
The handset is an entry-level handset, which means that it will not cost you an arm and a leg. It’s pretty basic, but a bargain with the features it has to offer.
Better yet, if ever you choose to get the Bada-powered handset, Barclays will give you £10 of free credit on your account. In addition, within 90 days, you will get a 10% cash back on anything you buy via Quick Tap.
Orange will be launching the Samsung Wave 578 Quick Tap within a few weeks. It will be available on pay-as-you-go and on a contract.
